MISSION
Iwata Education Aboriginal Corporation was started to cover the need for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander educators with TAE and university qualifications to support organisations in accredited and non-accredited educational programs that include Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander information. Our objectives are:
To assist and support organisations and businesses to embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledges, perspectives, cultures, and pedagogy/andagogy within their outcomes
To assist and support members of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community to enter and continue working in educating/teaching/academia
To assist Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with programs focussed on personal growth development and well-being.
WHAT WE DO
-
There are a number of certificates that either require an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Trainer/Assessor (such as Certificate IV in Indigenous Leadership) or would greatly benefit from having one (such as CHCDIV002 Promote Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultural safety).
We can assist you with a contracted Aboriginal Trainer/Assessor or help you find someone suitable for your program.
-
Want to include Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander content in your course? We can assist you in reviewing your current programs to see how culturally safe they are. We can also provide advice and develop your courses to meet cultural safety.
Our skills specialise in Aboriginal andragogy including both-ways learning, yarning circles, and dardirri. We work across the entire Victorian Aboriginal community to connect with relevant knowledge holders in your relevant field.
We pride ourselves on our ability to ensure that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledges, perspectives, and cultures is embedded safely and correctly - with approval from our Elders.
-
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Awareness Training gives you an introductory knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and appropriate ways of engaging with us.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people make up 3% of the population and workforce; therefore, organisations should be learning about culturally safe practices and attitudes demonstrate an understanding, acceptance, and respect for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultural identities, cultural ways, and our ongoing connection to culture, Community and Country.
Don’t have this type of training? We can help you develop and/or deliver this in your workplaces.
Already have this training established? We can help you review it and ensure information is up to date.
-
As educators ourselves, we want to support other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander educators - be it non-accredited, RTOs, or universities. We provide advice and support in professional development, contract negotiation, and connecting people to other networks relevant to their field.
If you’re an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander educator in any field and want support, reach out to us!
